Experience in the classroom.
Leadership on the board.

Hi, I’m Kris and I’m excited to announce my candidacy for the LTISD School Board. I believe our community’s students, educators and parents deserve representation by a Trustee with the strong voice of a career educator.

I believe voters want a school board trustee who understands what happens in classrooms and will fight for strong schools. One who is committed to positive change versus political theater. I’m here to focus on students, teachers, and families, and to do what is needed to see LTISD excel.

Kris Woodcock for Lake Travis ISD School Board Trustee, Place 5

Key Priorities

Advocating for all students

I believe that ALL children deserve a safe and equitable education. Our district needs to cultivate a climate that sees value in individual differences, allows kids to be themselves without fear of retaliation or for their personal safety, and appreciates diversity.

Teacher Retention

Teacher retention is good for everyone. As a career educator, I understand the increasingly unreasonable expectations that are put on educators. The pay our educators receive is among the lowest in the area and this is unacceptable for a district in a higher socio-economic category than most in our state. I will be a voice for teachers and work to make teaching in our district worth sticking around for.

The Place of Religion in schools

Knowing and respecting that each family has the constitutional right to freedom of religion make it imperative that all religion be kept separate from public school curriculum.

Transparency

Our district has recently experienced several egregious events resulting in poor communication and a lack of transparency. It is important for our community to trust that schools provide accurate information, particularly concerning incidents involving student safety. Students spend most of their time under the care of educators and administrators. It is essential to be informed promptly about any situation affecting their physical safety or causing harm. Transparency and accountability are crucial.

Testing

The ratio of time spent testing vs. time spent learning is contrary to achieving the academic excellence our district can and should provide. As a trustee, I will work to find ways to only include assessments that are necessary and informative to understanding how best to educate each student.

Vouchers

As private school vouchers threaten to dismantle public education, I will work to make LTISD the best option for ALL students, teachers and parents, making vouchers not even worth considering.

About Kris

Education & Experience

LTISD Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC)

I’ve loved volunteering in my children’s classrooms and helping in the community wherever I’m called. For the last three years, I’ve served on the LTISD Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) which informs the district’s Board of Trustees on issues surrounding student physical, social and emotional health. Through this position, I’ve worked closely with the school board and have gained important knowledge about the needs of our students. In 2024, I was part of the team that presented the board with our council’s recommendation for a phased student cell-phone ban, beginning on elementary and middle school campuses, during the instructional day. The board moved forward with our recommendation and the feedback from teachers, students and parents alike has been overwhelmingly positive.

Lake Travis

For 10 years my family has called the Lake Travis community home. I have raised a family here (I’m a proud mom to two sons - one in elementary and one in middle school) and worked as a Pre-K teacher at My Time Kids Academy. I maintain my Teaching Certification (I’ve always loved school, so it won’t come as a surprise that I love professional development and continuing education). I also pursued my passion for creating abstract art and founded a modern art LLC.

In my free time, I enjoy making art and doing anything creative, swimming, learning new things, attending my children’s sports and extracurricular activities and spending time with my family.

Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE)

Professional Development Coordinator & Manager.

At ATPE, I worked to develop continuing-ed programs for our (then) 110,000 educator membership across the state of Texas. Through the establishment of partnerships with groups such as Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) and Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented (TAGT), the budget of the professional development department was more than tripled. My position also allowed me to work closely with the Board of Directors and attend and present regularly at our association’s board meetings.

Austin Independent School District

Sanchez Elementary School, Austin ISD
Classroom teacher for six years.

As a teacher at Sanchez, I collaborated with the special education teacher and another teacher to provide an innovative 3-year program offering a 3rd-4th grade multi-level, co-teaching model. We established an all-inclusive environment in which Gifted and Talented, 504 and SPED students thrived alongside their peers. Through flexible grouping, project-based learning and the ability to collaborate in real time to the power of 3, our students learned to respect and appreciate the diverse needs of their classmates and themselves.

Austin ISD Leadership Development Program

International Baccaluareate (IB) Certificate in Teaching & Learning

University of Texas at Austin

I’ve proudly called the Austin area home since attending The University of Texas at Austin, where I graduated in 2002 with a BS in Applied Learning and Development with a Reading Specialization and teaching certification.
